Book Review: “Strung” by Per Jacobsen

This one was discussed a while back and the premise intrigued me. A man returns from a vacation in isolation to discover his home town is now filled with hanging bodies.

I don’t want to reveal much beyond that, but suffice to say, our character Randall starts to get a sense of what is going on and who his friends and foes are.

There are some very descriptive and evocative passages, particularly one describing a car tipping over. And I loved (and relate to) this sentence: “With a body that felt as if all his larger bones had been wrapped in barbed wire, Randall got up from the couch and went out into the kitchen.”

The middle dragged for me, where characters try to navigate their way through a somewhat familiar horror scenario.

It’s part of a trilogy, so much is unresolved at the book’s end.

I give it a solid 4.5 stars and will definitely check out more by Jacobsen.
