I’ve read a few Iain Rob Wright stories in the past. He seems to have a deserved reputation for dependable, if not earthshaking, horror stories.
Out of the 3-4 of his works I’ve read, I probably enjoyed Hell Train the least.
The plot is straightforward. Several people find themselves on a British train that has entered a weird, extra-dimensional space. Various demonic apparitions appear. Additionally, many people on the train carry guilt about some act they committed in the past.
The prose is solid. The plot felt a little cornball. I didn’t have much love for the heroes, or hatred for the villains.
I loved the British street gangster colloquialisms. “Bruv” and “innit” show up frequently.
This was a perfectly adequate way to spend a few hours and I’m sure I’ll read Wright in the future.
I give this a 3.5 stars that I’ll upgrade to 4 (out of 5.)
