Review: Cold Storage

I saw this movie on a long plane ride, and I’m going to note a disturbing observation I had while on the flight.

Anyone who’s been on a plane in the last 20 years knows that now every passenger has their own personal screen to watch films. On my flight, I watched several, including “Obsession”, “The Housemaid”, “Cold Storage” and one of the Star Wars movies.

These films seemed to be unedited for violent or sexual content, so I was able to watch several scenes of blood-drenched violence, a few suicides, lots of vomiting, and a naked Sydney Sweeney sex scene.

I had no problem with this, but I was acutely aware that anyone walking by or peering from seats behind me could see what I was watching. Including, I suppose, any kids on the flight.

It just seems a little weird that we are allowing the exposure of that kind of material to any three-year-old that happens to lean over.

Anyway, so how was “Cold Storage”? Basically fun and decent enough.

The plot is that a deadly fungus or spore thingy ends up stored in some government lab. But that lab ends up sold and converted into a storage facility, and the spore is forgotten.

Working the night shift at the facility are twentysomethings Travis and Naomi. They are unfortunately there when the spore “gets loose’

And begins infecting people. This results in a lot of vomiting and  exploding heads.

It’s a nutty film and reminded me a bit of “Return of the Living Dead,” which has a similar plot with a zombie pathogen.

Georgina Campbell of “Barbarian” and other horror flicks was solid as Naomi. I found the character played by Joe Keery, of “Stranger Things,” a little hard to get a bead on. It’s implied he’s a low-class criminal type, but he just kind of exudes a middle-class upbringing.

But that’s a minor complaint. “Cold Storage” is nothing earth-shattering, but would happily watch it again in a few years.
